Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former trainer Cervara.
Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after that period of that year.
Victory also signifies the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.
The player's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.
Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, he secured the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
