The Australian skipper has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an average of 22.10.
The Australian chair of selectors the selector has confirmed that skipper Cummins will play a "major part" in this winter's England-Australia contest.
Speculation had been growing that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that had not yet healed.
Earlier indications from the squad suggested no final decision had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the five-Test series kicking off on the 21st of November in the WACA.
The selector shared that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about his chances of being involved.
"We're aware that the window is narrowing and there are permutations around that, not only the back issue, but further aspects," he commented.
"It's positive. [We are] really confident that he'll participate in a major part. Ideally starting in Perth. If not, then we'll pick it up."
Injury History
He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after scans revealed a stress reaction in his back.
Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons causing him to miss three Australian summers in a short span.
Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.
Bailey noted that there was no confirmation if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his recovery but conceded it was "getting tight" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.
Alternative Arrangements
Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from the national team for their ODI contests against India as a preventive step because of soreness in his side.
The selector characterized it as a "minor" injury and mentioned that he's scheduled to appear in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "ideally positioned to deliver overs."
"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the initial game as an all-rounder," he elaborated.
"His involvement was limited to the starting games in any case. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, should it hinder progress for a short period, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
