Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
